Can someone tell me why a NBA referee is facing 25 years for betting, yet Enron executives got little time?

Answers:
Excuse me? Enron got BIG time. many of them are spending their last days in prison when they die.

I seem to recall that the Enron executives were facing a lot more time than they got. Do you really think this ref is going to get 25 years?
"What he said."

It's also important to note, that there are sentencing guidelines written for every state and the federal government. These guidelines are written by your state's legislation. So if it's anyone's fault that your NBA referee got 25, blame it on your state legislation. Additionally, judges will rarely move beyond these guidelines, as it encourages appeals based on "cruel and unusual punishment".
Tell me why drug offenders spend more time in jail than rapests, child molesters, and murderer's combined?
b/c the referee was betting on the games that he was calling. therefore he can affect the outcome of any given game with a bogus call at a key point in the game so that the basket either counts or doesn't. and he gets the outcome that he needs.
Enron officials pay income taxes on their ill-gotten profits. Gamblers don't. The government wants the money to pay fat salaries to officials.

"Facing 25 years" only means that the statutory maximum penalty for his crime is 25 years. This is the absolute, postive, maximum sentence he could get. In the federal system (where he is charged) there are sentencing "guidelines" to determine the ACTUAL sentence, within the statutory maximum. They take into consideration things like $$$ lossed by victims, the defendant's prior criminal history, if the crimes were committed using weapons, or intentionally evading officers, or against the poor or elderly. Most of these factors will tip in the official's favor. He will likely get MUCH MUCH less than the statutory maximum. The media just likes to cite the statutory maximum because it's very dramatic.
