How is this capitalism?

Main Entry: cap•i•tal•ism : "an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market."

Here is a partial list of the oil interests which met with Cheney during his secret energy task force meetings.

You are correct, I think to question our government's role in capitalism. I'm glad that you referenced a dictionary definition. You'll see in that definition that government has no role in capitalism.

The Republican party has a long history of corporatism (enjoy the link below) - this, I think, is what we are seeing in Cheney.

From WordNet:

corporatism

noun
control of a state or organization by large interest groups; "individualism is in danger of being swamped by a kind of corporatism"

This is corporatism. This is policy for sale, in secret. It is not even Democracy.
Facism is not capitalism and that is what we have right now!
Its called illegal. Dont worry Bush already has the pardon written out and hes just got the date on the form blank.
you need a hobby if this bothers you that much. What do you think you can do?
This is why HR333 is important.

I dont want to burst anyones bubble here so I guess a few questions are in order

1. if the meetings are secret - how do we know about them
2. how do we know who participated

Yes - I see the list - I am not blind - the point is - its not nor was it ever secret

Also

What does capitalism have to do with the governments energy policy??

Capitalism has everything to do with competition in a free market - there was NEVER a free market on the modern day energy business circle - from the electric companies to the gas companies - they are all regulated in some fashion or another by the government

The meetings that took place had nothing to do with capitalism and everything to do with government control by regulation - they were about how the government wants to gain more control over a resource so that it can dictate what is going where - can anyone guess whch military branch needs the fuel first?

As this country continues on its trek toward totalitarinism - more and more of these meetings wil take place and the government will continue to supply its own first and society second - if ever

Who says we cant be like Chavez or Castro? Looks to me like we are heading that way.

Capitalism - bah - those days are gone unless we restore the republic
