not only should you quit but you should contact your state's labor department.Michigan has a wage and hour division for just such complaints...but if you are in a southern state or texass you may be screwed

Not legal! Quit this job asap.
No this is illegal. File a lawsuit immedeately.
Sounds illegal to me, but I guess it depends on what State you live in because every State has their own laws.
It is NOT legal, call legal aide.
so not legal try telling.....well im no pro at this but you need to get him to stop. its not your fault.
Illegal. Many convenience store owners try to do this, but it is illegal.
did you call the police? If not why? either way he isnt supposed to take the money from you.
I honestly cannot see how he can possibly do this, unless he has proof you were involved in the robbery, he should be more concerned about your well being and how you were impacted by that then to be taking money off your check, thats sick. However if he has solid proof it was a set-up or the money was taken by you, or someone you knew then he probobly does have some kind of right, but I would think he would have to take you to court to garnish wages like that.
i dont believe so. even if it is it seems like a very unfair thing of him to do
Absolutely not! His company has insurance for losses of that nature.
I would say that it is highly illegal, as that is what insurance is for!
I would be talking to a lawyer/legal aid.
You may have to file a small claims court suit to get it back, but at the least I would file a complaint with the police and the better business bureau for your area.
I would consult a lawyer, and let your boss know that you are doing so.
It's illegal. Call a laywer. Most offer free initial consultations so you can find out your rights.
Illegal.

The man should have business insurance to cover things like that. More than likely, he is double dipping - he's reported it to his insurance company AND trying to get you to pay for it.

I would find a lawyer ASAP and have that lawyer "alert him to the error of his ways". If the letter from the lawyer doesn't work, sue his @$$.
It is illegal.

An employer cannot hold an employee responsible for company property unless the employee is doing something illegal. Employers cannot garnish your wages, (take money out) unless you agree per contract. For example, some companies take out money for transportation, housing, etc.

Your boss would have to prove that you took the money or that you gave the money away. Then, to reclame his losses, he would have to call the police and file a suit against you.

Employers have insurance for things like theft and damage. Another example, let's say he let you use a cell phone. If you lost it or damaged it, he couldn't make you pay for it unless you signed a contract saying you were responsible for it.
Why were you closing at your till in front of customers? Isn't there a back room you can do that in? Was it a friend of yours that just so happened to run by and take the money?
Totally Illegal!! Contact the state Attorney General's Office and let them know what is happening. After the state comes down on the boss, you will get your money back and probably get a raise too. Try this and your boss won't take any further action against you unless he wants to have his business shut down and pay a huge fine for violating workers' rights laws.
It depends on company policy. Check the Employee Handbook. If there isn't anything in the handbook about it, take his selfish butt to court.
Is there a Police report? Video surveillance showing the robbery? If there is then you should be contacting the Police. If not, well you decide what's right.
no its not

i think they need to have insurance if something like that happened, If i was u i would go to a lawyer and tell him what happened. you can probably sue
Did you call the police and file a report? If so then he has no legal basis for deducting the money. If you did not then contact your local workforce development office and ask them. I would provide a link for you but do not know what state you are in.
