Why is dogfighting illegal when thousands of animals are murdered everyday, unnecessarily, for hamburgers?
Not that I condone dogfighting, but sounds like a load of hypocritical bullsh*t to me.

You are comparing dog-fighting with cow slaughtering? There is no comparison. One is blatent cruelty to animals, the other is a neccesity. Lions have to kill to eat, just like a bat or a snake has to, just like we do. I do admit it is rather grose what goes on at a slaughter house and honestly I don't want to see where my hambergers and hotdogs come from and how they're made. I do think that the animals we consume should be treated well to a certain degree. They shouldn't be over-crowded, they should live in relatively clean conditions, they should be fed a good diet, and they shouldn't be given drugs or be genetically altered. Unfortunately this is not the case and it is hard to find and costly to get meat that is not tampered with in this way, and produce aswell. Raising and training dogs(or any animal, including cows) to be killers is illegal and it is immoral. Every animal(including pitbulls) come into this world as an innocent creature and it is how it is raised, trained and treated by it's human owner that makes the dog what it is. That someone like Michael Vick can do to a dog what he did, to make it the agressive monster it is, is bad enough. What happens to the losing dog is just disgusting. Michael Vick has paid a much higher price than anyone has ever paid for these crimes, and he deserves to lose the millions of dollars in salary and endorsements and I hope he never plays another game in the NFL. The laws are too lenient for this kind of crime. It is sad that the NFL and sponsors are willing to go this far to punish Vick, and our own gov'ts mostly will just fine you a tiny amount and prohibit you from owning an animal. People should be cooling their heels in prison for such crimes. I already see people calling this a "black" issue and saying this is all because Vick is black. This is not a guy being caught with alittle pot or something, this guy was brutalizing dogs, having them fight one another and executing losing dogs. He is scum, whether he is black or white. Somebody once said you can judge a society by how it treats it's most vulnerable. How can we as a society turn a blind eye to animal cruelty?

The cows get killed with one jolt of electricty... then we eat it.
the fighting dogs spend up to an hour chewing on each other... then the loser is tossed on a pile to die slowly from its wounds. Then the corpses are tossed out in the woods to rot.

One is for food and one has no purpose at all. I am guessing you may be a vegetarian or something so you would probably say that killing living things for food as wrong and has no purpose, well plants are living and they are just as equal as animals or us on this Mother Earth.

The animals going into our food supply are slaughtered humanely. The aren't forced to fight each other and then electrocuted. Imagine people PAYing to watch two vicious dogs rip each other apart, for sport.

Some people might disagree with you on the necessity of a hamburger. And then others might find dog fighting a pleasure rather than a crime..
Human cruelty is wide ranging and hard to change. Take up a cause, it will make you feel better.

Good point. I mean the pet thing doesn't work. People have birds as pets and yet we eat chicken and turkey. The domesticated farm animal thing doesn't work because pigs are pets too.

Because cows are killed quickly and do not suffer while dog fights take time and are painful. Having the throat cut is quick and painless, but being chewed for a long time is painful.
Some cultures use dogs as food also... personally I do not eat dog, but my dad went to Korea and they had it in restaurants...
the dogs are torn to shreds alive and often are beaten to death by their owners in the event of a loss. Cows are killed quickly for the perpetuation of the human race. Not much to eat on mans best Friend!
because dogs are cute and cuddly, they don't have a lot of meat and aren't vary tasty. Cows are big dumb animals, and they taste great after you lay them on a grill!
Dog fighting is considered inhumane. Do you know the things that they do to the dogs to make them fight? They are domestic animals and cows aren't. Cows are made for food.

My best answer would be that we get some sort of use out of cows when we eat them. Either way, quit whining.

well.killing an animal for food is not considered "unnecessary"...Cows are bred mainly for the purpose of providing meat and milk for human consumption.
Dog Fighting is illegal for many reasons and to note, **** fighting is also illegal,
1. It is a form of gambling, which is illegal
2. It is considered cruel to allow two dogs to fight on purpose.
3. Dogs are considered domesticated, they are not used as meat for human consumption in the United States.
4. It usually ends up killing one or both of the dogs
Animals are slaughtered, not murdered. Murder refers only to human beings. Food animals are raised specifically for that purpose, then killed humanely when mature. They are not pets. Human beings are omniverous, made by God and/or nature to eat both animal and plant products. Dogs are intelligent, people-loyal animals raised as pets, guard dogs, police dogs, herding dogs: in other words, they are raised to interact with people, and they serve totally different purposes from those of animals raised for meat/fur/wool, etc.

This is obviously an ethical question cleverly disguised to deceive and illicit emotion.
If you want the ethical answer, it is wrong for animals to be killed as it is for humans to be as we are all living creatures. This logic suggests that anything living has a right to live, which includes vegetables that you must kill to eta (lettuce, carrots). You'll have to eat the offspring of the vegetables and fruits, like apples.
Since you are using Philosophy (Ethics is a branch of Philosophy, by the way) and since this an argument, cleverly disguised as a question to deceive people, I can use logic to answer your question as well.
Your questions suggests the argument that because dogfighting is illegal, meat for hamburgers should be illegal as well. You are trying to suggest the fallacy of "the lesser of two evils", suggesting dogfighting should be legal, as you write the phrase, "dogfighting is illegal", which is called an absolutist statement, thus is using what power you perceive you have, since you attempt to control our minds into answering such a biased question meant to illicit emotion and cause us to face a moral dilemna, which obviously making people feel bad about themselves makes you feel good.
Plus you use the word "condone" which can easily be construed to mean that you may either agree with the statement, not agree with it, both agree and disagree, or you just don't plain care.
Of course, you use the word "hypocritical" to attack two entirely different things, and stop at that. You compared an illegal act with a legal act, and assumed they were the same "law of contradictory". It would have been more deceptive, and made you look better and having character should you suggested that either or such events should be both illegal or legal. That would have really put us into a moral dilemna, nobody wants to justify crime, in itself, yet nobody wants to be wrongly accused of a crime they didn't commit either.

This is how criminals try to defend themselves, among other ways, and I for one am not defending someone who really did do a crime.
