In the UK you may smoke at ANY age, but a retailer must not sell them to anyone under 16 (soon being raised to 18)
Despite what owiginalwabbit says you are not allowed to smoke at ny age. You must be 16 to buy and smoke.
There is no legal age to smoke, just to buy them.

Also there are restricted areas, and you may not smoke in public places.

According to a September 2006 post by Ash.org, a UK anti-smoking group, the legal age is currently 16, though there is some discussion of raising it:

Measures that affect the whole population, such as tobacco advertising bans, raising the price of tobacco, etc. are more likely to reduce smoking rates among both adults and young people than a measure that affects only one segment of the population."
The legal (physical) age to buy / smoke is definitely 16. They are now looking at putting this up to 18. The average mental age is a lot younger... They haven't put a limit on that one.
I have seen mammies precious darlings smoking and drinking at 9 yrs of age.Dont tell me that mummy doesnt know and when she is confronted she says well they all do it.But then that does not make it right does it.

There is no legal age to smoke, but to buy them you have to be atleast 16 years of age. Soon probably be increasing to 18.
