What is your reaction to the Ward Churchill firing?
Do you feel he was fired for his 9/11 statements (free Speach) or his unethical, plagaristic academic research? Would you feel comfortable to allow your child to be exposed to his instruction?

it's not that big a deal...he said stuff and invited a lot of scrutiny into his life...got fired because of it...end of story...unless the college paid him off, did they?

As far as his 9/11 trash talk. I hope the pain he feels by being fired last for a long time considering all those who suffered at 9/11.
He was on par with Ann Coulters comments about the 9/11 widows. Do you think it is funny how the liberals rally around Ward as claiming Free Speech yet Ann should be the most evil thing for what she said about the widows.

I think the University of Colorado better have some iron-clad evidence that plagiarism was committed. It looks to be more a punishment for speech that the University or some parents did not care for.
As to letting my child be educated by him, why not? The whole reason you send a child to school is for them to be educated and learn new things. You do not have to like everything they are taught otherwise teach them yourself!
If you deny your child exposure to other thoughts ideas etc.. you are denying them the chance to be a well rounded person. They will not even learn how to debate an issue because everyone always agrees with them!
If you did you jib as a parent, your child will be able to learn everything and pick and choose the ones they believe in AND actually debate the ones they do not! Who knows, they may change another students mind!!
I think he was fired for his academic misconduct, but his 9/11 statements sure didn't help his cause. Saying the things he did in the manner he did invited a lot of condemnation and scrutiny. And it's possible the university, or his political enemies, were looking for something to 'get him' on. A more revealing question might be- do other professors there get the same scrutiny as Churchill?
Regardless of the answer to that, if he did plagarize and conduct research in a shoddy or unethical manner, he should be fired.
And I would feel completely comfortable in allowing my child to be exposed to his instruction. Part of higher education is evaluating the credibility of sources. I'd want my children to make their own decisions in the matter- sheltering them from (supposed) evil political views is not doing them a service.
He should have been canned years ago. He wanted to be canned years ago. He was making as much as he was ever going to make in his life as a professor. The University was not going to make him Dean of the department. He figures if he says something outrageous enough, he would be fired and then he could SUE$$$$$$ for violation of his First Amendment rights (just don't endorse a candidate 3o days before the election).
Watch and learn. He is going to sue for $50-100 million dollars.
