Wrong. When the Taliban was in charge of Afganistan only 2-4% of the worls Heroin came from there, because the Taliban fought against it feverently. When the U.S. knocked out the Taliban Opium production increased greatly.
And now it is Drug country - but it's not the first time we've knocked out an "evil" power that resulted in millions of lives lost that woulnd't have happened had we not interfered.

Absolutely ... I have thought about this for a long time and I truly agree that the money used to purchase and use heroin does go directly back to support the terrorists.

Perhaps we should first think of them as farmers who depend upon their poppy crop for survival. Until we find some alternative crop for the farmers to grow and encourage them to switch to this newer product, the poppy production will thrive. This is simply because all people feel they have a right to earn a living.
If we blow up the poppy fields and arrest the farmers, we are simply making more enemies for the United States, and more supporters for the Taliban and Al Queda. I am not bright enough to know any crop that could substitute for poppies, but there must be something.
Let's remember, too, that any business is a system of supply and demand. If the demand is there, there will always be those who provide the supply. I don't know the answers. Perhaps providing free drugs for addicts would help solve the problems, along with Rehabilitation Clinics, and decriminalization of addiction. It's a certainty that our War on Drugs is as much of a mess as our other wars.
because drug dealers and users don't really care where the product comes from, i don't think they should be considered "enemy supporters" any more than u should be if you buy your girlfriend/wife a diamond (as 60% of the diamonds on the market are pressumed to be "blood diamonds", wich are controled by the warlords in africa, who in turn are responsable for the genocide taking place there, and also al-queada it's self)...sobering thought wouldn't you say?
