Sounds like a dysfunctional situation...
Legally, once someone gives you a gift (i.e. it wasn't intended that you borrow it, or give it back at some future time, but intended to be yours to keep) then it is yours, and they have no legal way to force you to return it.
Get a job and buy your own. Sorry, but I just think this is silly. Sucks for you though.
Legally it depends if it was a gift or not.
Possession is nine tenths of the law. Do you live with them? if not, then there's really nothing they can do.
Get a job, buy your own and stop watching porno on it.
They gifted it to you, without retaining any rights to it, I assume.
Since you are an adult, I believe you possess all rights to the laptop, and don't have to give it back.
However, if your live at your parents' house, they may kick you out...
Possession is nine tenths of the law and it was a gift to u !
if this was a gift, and they gave it to you, it is yours and they have no claim to it
Why do they want it back now? Was there some agreement which makes it theirs now? I don't understand what would give them the right to demand it back? I would think it's yours now.
The gave it to you with no expectations of you paying for it or reciprocate like get good grades.
if they said, youcan have this laptop on the condition that you remain in school or whatever, that is called a verbal contract. If you didn't fall through they have grounds of getting it back. if it was a gift then they have to charge it to the game.
Well according to you, your parents bought the laptop for you, which really isn't the same as giving it to you. If they bought it for you and you are still living in their house then if they want it back they should be able too. However, if you are not living in their house and are on your own then the laptop is yours; unless you signed some other type of agreement with your parents.
Why can't you just give them the computer back instead of acting like a spoilt child?
Aged 20, surely you can afford your own laptop? If not, maybe that's why they're so mad at you. Find a job and stop arguing with your parents. You are an adult now.
Sounds as if your parents are childish! Give it back and don't accept anything else from them. When you give you give from your heart with no strings attached! School is about to start and you can find great inexpensive deals for students on computers. You maybe able to find one for free!
Give it back get a job and stop your crying.
