Dog got stolen? Legal Help?
About five teenaged guys moved in across the alley from us a couple months ago, last night one of them or one of their friends stole my dog. She is a pitbull, she is very loved, she is my daughters best friend and protector, she is up to date on her shots and she is spayed. Anyway, when she was first missing, I found out because I went to let her in the house and the back gate was open and she was nowhere to be found, I called the humane society this morning and they said that a police officer had brought a dog in of that description just a few minutes earlier and told me to come and see if it was her, When I got out there they told me that three teenaged boys had just left like 3 minutes earlier and they were trying to claim her. They said that the boys told them that they paid $200 for her the night before and wouldn't say who sold her to them, Well they told me that one of the boys was wearing a Sonic shirt....(continued)

you need to file a police report and use the humane society worker as a witness. lock your gate. get your dog microchipped, it is a simple procedure, using a needle in the neck, just like shots that installs an ID chip into your dog. If she is lost or stolen you stand a much better chance to recover her and can prove she is yours, since you have to change the registrared owner if given away. it costs about 25.00 at humane societies. higher at regular vets
you need to call 911 and make a report to the police, document all contact with these thugs. get a restraining order if necessary. keep a close eye on your dog, they may try to poison her, make sure to check the yard for strange food items before letting her out
keep an extra eye on your daughter too, she may be next in line for their games, I had the same kinds of problems with neighborhood punks and it took forever to get anything done to stop them
the only way to get them out of your neighborhood is to call the cops EVERY time there is a problem, you have to stand up to them, even if you file police reports and ask them not to contact you except by phone, let the cops know you are afraid of these guys, the higher the police patrol, the less likely the guys will do anything for fear of getting caught
you will have to pay the $50. everytime they let her out or steal her, lock up your yard
give me their address.. I'll go get your dog back for you.. trust me...
but check this out in the meantime

Its Animal Legal Defense Advice..
Document this on paper from beginning to end & then call the police to make a report. Make sure you know the name of the person you talked to at the shelter. They will go & talk to the shelter people too. They should also talk to the elderly couple to soothe them.
If you don't do something it will only get worse. These kids sound bad. I would NEVER leave my dog or anything of value outside alone. After the police talk to them, they will be out to get you. BUT, you can't be afraid of them & do nothing, then you are empowering them. Please guard your dog so they can't hurt her...
Just be extremely watchful & keep a cell phone with you. Make sure your doors are always locked. Keep a close eye on them. Never hesitate to call 911. That is what they are they for. If you see one of those brats coming to your house, get the phone ready to call.
