Why are cigarettes & alcohol legal, but marijuana is not?
the mortality rate from cigarettes or alcohol are thousands of times higher than marijuana. what's the deal?

weed's big business..we wouldnt need half the prisons, prison guards or even street cops if it were legal.IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AMERICAS SAFETY, HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY'S FUNDING..you can buy stock in CCA and other "privatized correctional corporations". these stocks only gain value when cells are full and more prisons are needed. lots of these stock holders are judges and prosecutors, sounds like a conflict of interest to me....in my opinion, these stockholders are vito corleone with a huge army of street patrolling luca brazzi's..making it illegal would put many LEO out of work, so really the govt makes more $ with it illegal than legal

its pretty stupid. its probs all because mary jane can give your brain a little ride from reality, no more than alchy though. and the way i see it, you can grown mary from the ground, its all natural, nothing needs to be added, so it would be cheaper than cigs and alchy, and far less health issues. i mean, it helps people with cancer! it should be legal.

Because it can lead to harder stuff? So can cigarettes and alcohol. It makes no sense. The government should make it legal, control it and make people pay luxuary taxes on it instead of making the rest of us pay high taxes on gasoline.
Probably cuz nobody was smart enough to set up a big biz for it way back when everything was still legal. The alcoholics & smokers got their way, and well, if there woulda been a hippy in charge in the 1800's, we would get to get stoned anytime we want to today. SUx, don't it?

Plus, you answered your question. Tobacco and alcohol are legal, thus they have the higher mortality rate. More people take them because they are legal. If weed was legal, more would die as a result from doing something stupid or careless while on the drug.
Finally, it is true that it's a gateway drug. It just leads to worse things. While you, the kind questioner, likely wouldn't have to worry about the gateway aspect, there are a lot of weak willed people out there.

I think rather than legalise some drugs, the government originally wanted to criminalise alcohol and tobacco. Trouble is (especially if you're near-sited), there's too much money in them and because society would revolt - remember prohibition in the 30s? It begat bottlegging and with it associated crime
I used to be a cop. That's a very good question. I don't know how many people i have taken to jail because of alcohol. it doesn;t matter if it is weed or alcohol, people are going to abuse it and get into trouble and kill people. If weed was legal i would smoke it. lol It is just a simple fact that there are things out there that if you use in moderation, are good for you. but people will always abuse them and mess everything up for the rest of us. Marijuana is not legal, and that's the cold hard fact. If you smoke it, you run the risk of getting into trouble. Simple as that. There is no explanation to why it is illegal, just that it is, and people suck. Can you tell i have been a cop for awhile. lol
Marijuana is a drug, generating hallucination but neither of the other two does that. Brain is affected in Marijuana case but the other two are not that bad. Yes liquor can also induce drowsiness and spoil the health but probably all the people are drinking liquor for generations it could have been exempted.
Weed is safe for the idiot who said it wasn't. I dont do it but I am all for it being legallized alcohol is way worse for you. The gateway drug story is bull ****, if the F.D.A. legallized weed it would replace alot of their expensive drugs and they would lose money, and they're not in business to lose money
