Tell me the truth. Why the gov't can't collect the right taxes.?
Answers:
The reason they can't collect the right taxes is because people always cheat the IRS.
They claim deductions for stupid things and there is just no way that the government can audit every American's tax return, so the cheats that go unaudited get away with it, causing the government to lose Billions.
Also, aside from the war in Iraq on which the government spends about 50% of each tax income dollar which is arguably a waste of money, the government isn't wasting your money.
There are a number of hammers which were shown on purchase sheets as being paid $2000 for and Toilet Seats that were bought for $5000 and things of that nature.
The reason for this is because the government spent a lot of money on something and they don't want you to know exactly what it is.
It is stuff that is good for the country but bad for PR.
As an example, think of it as bribing a minor drug lord in order to get information to take down a major drug cartel. The government doesn't want stuff like that spread all over the news, so they doctor prices of things they bought for normal price and inflate it in order to hide where the money really went.

They collect the taxes OK. The problem is that they waste more than the get their filthy hands on!
Define the "right taxes"
They collect based on what they think are the right taxes. There are some people they can't get to pay. They eventually go after them.
There are so many people trying to get out of paying their fair share of taxes that it is all difficult.
I don't know what you mean by the 'right taxes' but I woudn't mind seeing a shake up of our whole tax system. Either a flat tax or a consumer tax would be something to look into for a change.
The government CAN collect the right taxes. The problem is that the Revenue Officers/Tax Collectors DO NOT collect the right taxes to the detriment of the government. The Tax Code and Revenue Regulations are clear to the procedure of assessing the correct and right taxes. It also provides for penalties/fines to tax evaders. There are existing penal laws to punish such corrupt / negligent revenue officers.Unless the system of collection is enforced / improved and those erring revenue officers prosecuted, the correct/right taxes are doomed not to be remitted to the national treasury to the detriment of not only the government but ultimately the general public.
