The federal government says Marijuana has no medicinal benefits. But they approved Marinol, a pill that contains synthetic THC. They are lying to the public, Why?
I met a woman on the federal medical marijuana program.yes there is a federal program. And the federal government grows marijuana for patients. over 50% of Americans live in medical marijuana states. The DEA still arrests patients.

You need to first research why it was made illegal in the first place.
Truth: Marijuana prohibition was orchestrated by BIG TOBACCO lobbyists who deemed Marijuana to be an "alternative" to tobacco.. They figured they would lose money because they couldn't market marijuana.because anyone can grow it easily. So they lobbied the congress, and a state sponsored film named "reefer madness" was put out on their dime to demonize pot smokers. This was a propaganda film which is where 420 came from. 420 was the address of the main character which is shown in the opening scene of the movie.
Tobacco lobbyists' viewed marijuana as a direct competitor, and with it being legal they would stand to lose billions of dollars. (a non addictive relatively harmless plant, that also has the added benefit of giving you a buzz )
How many people die each year from cigarettes ?...millions
How many die from marijuana ?... NONE...not one single person has ever died from marijuana in the 5000 years we know of it being used in cultures around the globe..

Because Marijuana has other stuff in it that creates a different reaction. SOme blunts the effect, while other enhance it. There others that has other side effect. If FDA regulated Marijuana, it would be pulled off the shelf. There is now an English study printed on Lancet, the British version of the New England Journal of Medicine, that shows a correlation of Marijuana and Psychosis. Frankly you might not care if you become a Schizophrenic, but i do.

Why do people lie that Marijuana does not kill. It causes heart attack and lung infections. It also cause car accident. THe reason why Marijuana is under reported as the cause of car accident, is that most refuse drug testing and the cause of teh accident is listed as alcohol related. Also most Marijuana involved auto accident is paired with alcohol. When people party with pot, they usually drink too. Study shows it's disporportionately worse together than it is individually.

As to WHY it's still illegal? two wrongs don't make a right. WHEN will it br legalized? probably in the next 10 years.
user2000's answer is entertaining, but an urban myth. Read the link and you'll see that it was ignorance, and prejudice that principally drove the laws, not big business. (that's funny. EVERYthing we disagree with, or is bad is because of big business)
