12 hour overtime notice!!? WTF!!!!?

What are the legalities of working scheduled overtime, even though it conflicts with my workers comp appt? the reason I'm asking is because My foreman sheduled me for today, when my workers comp appt is today. They told me 5 minutes b4 I clocked out that they scheduled me. I work from 6:00pm to 6:30am. My appt is at 1:00pm. I got to bed at 10:00 am leaving me about 3 hrs of sleep. I am supposed to be off for 2 days. I'm not gonna pull a 12 hour shift on 3 hours of sleep. any suggestion?

Most companies have in their policy,
they will post over-time, say on wednesday, for work that weekend..
just for this reason.workers dont like being told when there on there way out the door. If they dont, this is one of the easier things to get implemented. 15-20 pissed of people
is usually all it takes, but you have to ask...1st.

Go to bed earlier, suck it up and drive on.
*Cough*

Sik time?
Sure, just tell them you have a WC appointment and you can't work the shift. I doubt they will mess with you when you are trying to attend an official WC scheduled meeting
If you work another long shift on 3 hours of sleep, there may be additional workers comp issues for them to deal with. Get something from you workers comp doctor to restrict the hours you're required to work.
I think it is a state by state law about overtime, but I could be wrong about that. I know here they can keep you up to 18 hours straight. Where that isn't a very nice thing to do they can legally do it. I don't know what options you have about getting out of it though.
most employers are not sympathetic on workers comp issues, because its a huge financial liability for them, whether they are scheduling you to work on purpose or not, there not going to cut you any slack, and probably would love for you to just quit or mess up and get fired, try rescheduling your app. or suck it up and be tired for one day, happens to alot of folks everyday.
