What is judgment in default of appearance? Is it fair?

Trying to make the study of law easier in non-legal terms...I get confused.

I believe it means you're a no show in court. Because you didn't show in court judement was not made in your favor. I also thinks it's fair.If you are supposed to be in court on a certain date,you should be there.
