If I Was Arrested And Then Not Charged Am I Entitled To Compensation?
I was told this sometime ago but was then told that It is generally frowned upon because it causes so much hassle.
But is this true as in the title?
Thank you

I personally have never heard of such a thing. If you were arrested then you were in fact charged. You may have not been prosecuted but there has to be some kind of charge in order to arrest you. A police officer can not put you in custody with out some kind of charge. He/she may not tell you what the charge is at the time of your arrest but I guarantee you they will have one before it is finished. What I mean by this is lets say a cop pulls you over for what he believes is suspicious activity on your part (you could have a nice car and be in a bad neighborhood they think you are looking to score drugs) Okay so the cop pulls you over you give the cop a ration of crap this makes the cop mad next thing you know you are in handcuffs and are under arrest. Right that second the cop is thinking of a bunch of crappy charges he can put on you. He is only doing this because you made him mad and he has the power to do it. When the prosecuter sees these charges he/she will then decide whether or not to bring you to court. They usually can tell when it is bogus crap and that you just pissed off the cop so they then drop these charges. They figure you have learned your lesson. Now if you want to turn around and sue them they can also turn around and make those charges stick and bring you to court. My suggestion is this. Let it go. You were already arrested they dropped the charges why bring yourself more hassle by bringing a law suit against them when they can still prosecute you.
Nope,
maybe if being arrested somehow cost you lots of money
no thats not true
Compensated for what? You must be joking...LOL
No, you are not compensated. Be glad you weren't charged.
Only if the police did not have grounds to arrest you. Just because you weren't charged doesn't mean you were falsely arrested. If the person who accused you lied, then you may have a case. Talk to a lawyer. You can usually get a free consultation.
If there was probable cause and no brutality or other mistreatment, probably not.
You can get an Attorney and sue for false arrest. You better be sure you are totally innocent, or it will backfire on you. The Police have the right to arrest and question any suspicious person, if they believe they have reasonable cause.
only if you could prove they arrested you out of malice. such as fabricating evidence.
