Do you think there are too many law enforcement agencies?
To cut down on inter-agency rivalries the DEA and ATF should be collapsed into the FBI. The FBI’s job used to be done by the US Marshals. So they can just do back to doing it. Everyone should trade in their badges for marshals stars.

We've gone over this one at length. Basically I suggest all law enforcement persons be US Justice Department employees who are contracted out to local jurisdictions. This would improve employment history verification and records of qualifications. It would also allow Justice dept. to allocate more officers to areas of high need and remove overlaping jurisdiction issues as seen between city, county, constable, sherif, state, FBI, Homeland security and every other badge in the area. Also, each person would be compeled to enforse ALL laws. No more "thats a federal crime, we don't care".
You would not get a higher standard of ethics but you'd only get fired once!
I think part of the reason there are so many agencies is to have specialized agencies that do only a few things and have limited jurisdiction. The ATF, ICE, and DEA only deal with specific crimes. I believe that there is a fear that giving all this power to one agency could make that agency too powerful.
The many different agencies are designed to handle individual type criminal offenses. If there was only one agency the risk of extreme corruption would be there more than now. Each agency deals with aspects and jurisdictions to ensure the civil rights and liberties are protected.
