NC State Law on handleing animals?

I recently went to apply for a job at Petco as a animal specialist and was told I needed to be 18 to handle animals due to north carolina laws? I'm 16, btw.

Can anyone find anything about this law? Or is it just Petco policy to be 18 to handle the animals?

EDIT: Okay. so went to Petco.com and it said "If you are 18 years of age or older and interested in working at PETCO, please contact a store near you and ask to speak with a member of the management team."

There was a 14 year old girl working there on the register? I'm confused.

A 14 year old working the register? Not up on my labor law but I would guess that could be bad. What city is this in?

E-mail Petco and ask them about it. You should be able to do this thru their webpage. Mention the fact they have a 14 year old working the register.

Okay, did a little research. The animals do constitute a hazard in the work place. If you are under 18 then you have to have your parents sign a permit. It sounds like Petco is requiring their workers to be 18 just to skip the headache and liability. I guess those guppies can be murder.
