D.A.R.E. solicitors using hard sell techniques to push unwanted merchandise at local supermarket...?

Twice this week I have been harassed by D.A.R.E solicitors at my local grocery store. At first I tried to give them a cash donation, I had about $2.00 in change in my purse. The "officer" at the stand told me that due to 9/11 they were unable to take cash donations, but that people had to buy items from the table, ranging from a $10.00 set of glitter pens to a $50.00 child identity kit (2 for $50). When I was told that I would have to spend $10.00 in order to make a donation I told them I would have to think about it. I decided that if they would not accept a donation of a smaller amount I couldn't make a contribution. On my way out of the store they called out to me and I told them, "No." Today they were again at my market. I told them no, I didn't want their merchandize. They then asked if I would buy the item for the NEXT child who came along who's mother didn't have $10.00. These people will not accept NO for an answer!

Answers:
wow seems like some hard sell tactics going on there, sorry if this sounds stupid but what is D.A.R.E. actually collecting for?

And as for the getting you as you go in and out of the shop, I would ask to speak to the duty manager and mention that much as you like shopping at the store, you find that the constant harassment of the collectors more than off putting, this WILL get their attention and hopefully the store will stop this collector from having a stall at their place....I had a kid approach me selling bars of chocolate, not a bad thing BUT it was about 12pm outside in the car park and I told the kid, [a] don't creep up on people like that as he was likely to get hurt and [b] told the store that this kid [who had much larger kids about 2 cars away] was being a bit on the intimidating side of leaping at you as you was trying to get out your car and collect your stuff for entering the store.

regards

Thanks for letting me know what it is......really think that approaching the store would be the best recourse you would have......also maybe like a LOT of other charities these guys work on a commission basis hence the hard sell ?

That's nothing new.
Tell these jerks you are on drugs and that's where all your money goes. Ask them to donate their cheap crap to you so you don't have to rob a liquor store to help you buy more drugs and then see what they have to say.
Porbably best to also complain to the store and inform them that you won't shop at a store that supports fascist indoctrination of children.
file a complaint on them, dare has failed and they just can't accept it.

added. the idea was good but the government has determined it is a failure.
