The alarm always goes off at the department store?

Ok, so i have a plate in my knee its a 2.3 x 2.1 inch plate from when it was smashed playing hockey. Every time i walk into any store the alarm goes off like the one that is meant to go off when someone steals something, i know its the plate because I've tested it, i took everything out of my pockets and made sure it wasn't my pants or shirt and walked through. So every time this happens the cops runs over and go through my pockets and bags everything that is on me. I tell them and they keep on searching, at one point they took me into a "back room" and asked me questions about what i was doing in the store. What are my legal rights to refuse that they check my bags and stuff or is it not up to me because its their alarm? Any help would be nice its really embarrassing.

Answers:
they cant make you do anything unless they place you under arrest..you dont even have to stop and talk to them...if they stop you, then you can sue them if they insist on searching you and find nothing...just wave when they holler at you...those door things are only a deterrant if you let them bully you

Haha, that sucks. I think you're just gonna have to live with it.

I had that problem for about two years. I had bought some shoe from K mart & every time I went into some stores I would set off the alarm. One shoe had a piece of metal in it.
You can go to your doctor to settle the agreements and give you some sort of document that you can show the police when they inspect you.
