How much time for 4 and 5 degree felony?
When a person was put in jail for selling stolen goods, how much time do they receive for 4 and5 degree felony.
Answers:
Not nearly enough.
depends on what state you're in
While it really depends on which state you live in (some don't even have 4th and 5th degree felonies) there are a few guidelines which may help you figure it out. A felony offense is one in which you may be imprisoned for over 1 year. For states that recognize more than 3 degrees of felony the lowest felony they list usually has a maximum sentence of 1 to 4 years. Meaning if you are convicted of Felony 5 it's likely that the maximum penalty would be a year in jail. The next step up is where you begin looking at serious time. This could be in addition to fines and other forms of punishment.
One example is Minnesota in which Felony 5 carries a maximum of a $3,000 dollar fine and 1 year in jail. Felony 4 carries a maximum of a $20,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison.
