Are Bittorents Legal?

my friend told me about them and said they work really well and are a great way to get video, but i'm questioning whether or not there legal.

Answers:
bit torrent is legal, its only a method of downloading.

However, if you are downloading copyrighted information such as most songs and movies, that is illegal..

As long as no-one finds out, they're legal. ;-)
The RIAA lawyers claim it's all illegal.

They're just mad that they can't do anything about it. Bit-Torrent is the hardest method of file-sharing to track and identify you.
