My fiance' was on probation & now he has been released & citizens rights restored-can he now own a gun?
my fiance' was on probation for 3 yrs. for class d felony. he turned his life around and has had an excellent record. He was released from probabation and his citizen rights restored. He is wondering if he can begin hunting again. With his now excellent record and citizen rights being restored, can he now get a gun for hunting?
Answers:
sorry but since it was a felony he can not have a gun.
Well it depends.some people keep records w/ the places that sell guns and they can see who has a criminal record and they can turn down a person if they want to.
He obviously doesn't have an 'excellent' record. I don't think convicts should have guns...why don't you just get it in your name if it's that important to him
NOOOOOO!
HIs full citizen rights are restored five yeas after getting off-paper. He will never be able to get a CCW (concealed carry) however.
In some states, if all of your civil rights are restored, then you are allowed to vote (which felons can't otherwise do) and I believe in some states that also lets you apply for a firearm permit. Anyone in the state attorneys office, the public defenders office, or whoever represented your fiance in his criminal matter could answer that in a second but I dont know what state you live in. In all liklihood he can get a hunting license but could use someone else's gun but he may be OK to buy a gun too. Without knowing the state, I can't tell you much more.
Only your state can answer that for you. Some offenses prevent you from ever owning a gun.
