Why do drive-thru atms have brail?
I drove up to a wachovia drive-thru atm and it had brail on it. I then pondered about it, but I couldn't figure it out. Honestly It's not like a blind man is going to drive up in his cadillac and withdraw money from the drive-thru atm and keep rolling. So what is the point in having brail on it?
Answers:
So a blind passenger can get out of the car and use the ATM. I've seen it happen.
you kno what i honestly dont know but i was just thinking the same thing a few days ago
Because for standardization they use the same key pad for the drive up that they do for the walk up.
Damn..thats a good one.
So blind folks can get money. :)
Well, you can drive through backwards so the passenger gets access to the machine, so I suppose it's possible.
My real guess is so that they can't be sued for not providing equal access to the handicapped.
Just because you can't drive doesn't mean you can't use a drive up ATM. You could be in the back seat or simply get out of the car. It would also not make sense to produce one ATM keypad for a drive through and another for a walk up. The more a machine matches up to its counterparts the cheaper its parts are to produce the product.
It's all a question of economics. It would be too expensive for the company to run two production lines and make ATMs without braille for drive-thrus and ATMs with braille for other places. It's cheaper to just use the same design for all the machines.
Thats probably the most intellligent question I've seen on YA. Congratulations!
