Does anyone know what those lawyers are called. the ones who only get paid if you win?

please, i really need to know, and also where u can find them in phone book.

Answers:
contingency fee attorneys
They're probably not sepearated out in the phone book though. You may have to call their offices and ask if they accept contingency fee cases.
Be aware, that even if you have a case, if it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of money in it, a contingency fee attorney will probably not take the case...

Ambulance chasers.
They're called "Ruthless".
Actually, it's called working Pro Bono. As for finding such a lawyer, it depends on the nature of your case. You could always call your state's BAR association, just call information and ask for the number. They'll direct you to a lawyer that will either give you a free first consultation, or charge you a minimal fee, usually $25. During that consultation, the lawyer will decide if your case is worth taking and whether or not they'll do it pro bono.

btw, who's the cocksucker that keeps giving me a thumbs down on all my answers?
pro bono
Pro bono. Lawyers are like sharks. Only a few will work for free. Lawyers won't take a case unless there is lots of money.
Yeah, how dare lawyers expect payment for their services? Sharks indeed. Unlike the honest folks here, especially the one above me, who all work for free.
Pro bono means they are basically doing volunteer work (often as part of the law school curriculum), and you don't have to pay at all.

Contingency means that you only have to pay the attorney's fees if you win the case.
you can search the ABA , American Bar Association for lawyers.

on the left is the lawyer locater service.

all i can say is choose carefully. try to ask for referrals from those who you trust, for the specialty , but do not discuss the case details with anyone but your own lawyer.

the only other way I know to find a lawyer is to go to court and actually sit an observe a few court calls. i do not always understand what is being presented , it is complicated , but if you sit close to the front of the court you can hear most of it/understand a little bit. then try to make a decision based on how good you think the lawyer is / and also consider if s/he has a really lousy client.
They are called personal injury lawyers and best thing to do is look at their websites if you are looking to hire one. I have attached a link from targetlaw for personal injury lawyers. Good luck
