Please answer my ? about Blacks and RESPECT?
I know that NOT ALL blacks are like this, but i notice the issue of respect is brought up more in the black culture,specifically in their music. They are always rapping about trying to get respect, giving respect, being disrespected etc.I'd like to know their definition of respect. I am referring to ghetto blacks that dont value education. This includes ones that throw food wrappings on the streets(breeding more rats and bugs in their neighborhoods which are already a mess), The ones that get into fights over menial things.They wear clothes that dont fit well. They have babies with different mothers and fathers and dont get married. They dont take care of their kids, yet they demand respect from others.
I know there are white trash, hispanics and asians who are just as bad but AGAIN, it's ghetto blacks that are always bringing up the topic of respect.
For ghetto blacks, I'd like to know If you dont respect yourselves , your kids, your environment, y should anyone else respect you?

JOLIE, I have found that you only have a few real friends in life and the rest are just people that you know, use or are used by. So with that said any single person only really knows 2 or 3 people and what makes them who they are.
I have always considered many of the people that chose or don't know how the change the conditions in which they live don't have a history of real true friends, just people that they know, use or are used by.
Fifty years ago I grew up in that place but back then I felt the respect in the street and people that did for each other that had not much more than a shirt on their back. When self-respect was taken away by the social programs of the 60's the general respect was also lost for and by the people that lived there. They hear about it, They are told that it is the key to life, they want it back but not enough understand what it is or how to use it.
I agree, but when my big black neighbor Bubba asks me the same thing, i'm gonna smile and tell him what he wants to hear, HAHAHAHAHHAAAAA!!!!!!

Good point. I am white and I realize that some people of my race are just the same as described above. I do not go around preaching about getting respect because I respect others and they respect me in return. The blacks, Hispanics, Asians, people of all races that don't at as described above do get respect. It's not a matter of race it is a matter of how you act as a person. Unfortunately a large proportion of black people act as mentioned above. :(

Rap music isn't about being black--it's about being a young, male, urban black. To a young, urban male, of almost ANY race, respect is a testosterone thing: don't look wrong at someone, don't come onto his woman, don't trash talk him.
Look at guys on a high school football team. Look at the teenage guys (by no means all!) who drive so aggressively, they raise insurance rates for all young men.
Your definition of respect is more mature than many young guys of any race seem able to comprehend. Yet. The posturing of rap music plays more to that surface status.

ur going to rock the boat with this question, but i totally agree with you. but you also forgot about the "gangstas" doing their drivebyes, killing innocent people, just to gain what they call "respect". respect for them is more people they killed, robbed, raped, or how high they got, how drunk, how much stuff theyve destroyed for no reason, how many gang members theyve killed, cops they kill, cars they jack, stores they rob. they think that by doing that, they deserve respect, because they got away with it. they then rap about it to brag about it, theyre pretty much saying "hey, look at me, i just drove bye and killed 10 people, and i got away!"
but i also sidetrack from your question, have you ever noticed that all different cultures think the whites (yes i said white, not CAUCATION) are racist. but then you notice, united negro college fund, and if there was a united white college fund, they would yell "racist". ever notice that? oh, i know that my answer is going to piss off people...but i'm not racist.

Their definition of respect is that you stay out of their business and stop telling the booty tight wearing clothes, and throwing trash on the ground black folks that are feeding rats and bugs, (which is a religion in India) saw it on the travel channel Sunday. You do have a good point and I am black. These black rappers are just talking sh*t to sell records, also alot of these thugs have the nerve to asks for respect but yet they are killing one another over bullsh*t, stealing, robbing, etc. I am so ashamed of these people doing all these fu*ked up things and get mad when other groups of people talk about us. I am a very proud black women and I am married with children have a great paying job, beautiful home. I just wish these thugs black men and women could learn from the decent black people who has done well for themselves instead on focusing on negativity. I am a black woman an this question has baffled me an my co workers. I feel that you've made a point, but at the same time stereo typed black people. I read the entire question an I am aware of the fact that you were not referring only to blacks, but other cultures as well. I myself, I'm not ghetto or disrespectful, and by any means do I agree with rappers lyrics, but everything you said was extremely racist. The conclusion that I received from your question is that majority of blacks are loud, ghetto, disrespectful, and trifling. To add insult to injury most of your responses agreed with you, even the black lady. White people to me are more conniving, look at the white house that's a prime example alone. Not trying to sound ignorant, but white people do just as much if not more that black people. It just so happens that when a black person do it, it becomes more public. A lot of white peoples wrong doing is covered by the media.
