Is there a maximum wage for 16 year olds?
Our daughter is hoping to start work at 16,we know there is a minimum wage but not sure if there is a maximum wage ?
Answer:
No, there is no such thing as a maximum wage. Unless, of course, she's in the NBA. Then it's around $22million a year.
Not to my knowledge. The Olson twins were billionaires by the time they were 16...hopefully your daughter can make more than that, but most 16 year olds that I know of make between minimum wage and $10/hr. The higher paid positions typically go to guys who do more manual labor.
The direct and simple answer is no.
We have two teens in the workplace. They compare jobs to see who will pay the highest and in our area it depends on how long they have worked in general, how long they have worked for the place they are working for and how good their work is. Some 16 year olds qualify as emancipated minors and are responsible for a family. They need the money just as much as anyone else does. It would be discrimination to have a salary cap on them. Education or lack of it in the case of a 16 y/o has a big part to play in how much they get paid in the long haul.
No maximum wage. I started waitressing when I was 15. So I was making over $100 a day in tips. Plus the minimum wage. So that was at least $15 an hour or more on a good day. :)
