Should NHS staff be ordered not to eat at their desks to avoid causing offence to Muslims during Ramadam?

Answers:
If in UK no!
I am not racist at all as i have many foreign Friends that i care for deeply BUT when in our country then they should accept our way of life! Simple. If you don't like it here then go home to your own country!
I think the UK bow down far too much as to what other ethnic cultures want or feel offended by.
The bottom line for me was having to name our Christmas celebration the festival of lights!! So as not to offend other religions!! Should have been the Christmas lights parade!!! Also religions being offended by us putting up the England flag in schools in UK!!

That's ridiculous, they need to learn to operate in an open society, which of course, most of them already do.
nooooooooo
absolutely no way
if they don't like it - look the other way damned infringement of civil liberty i reckon
just don't have a Bacon sandwich and a beer!
Are you joking? This PC is getting way out of hand.
If I were in an Islamic country, do you think for one second, that they would not eat anything I gave up for lent in front of me?
Of course the answer is NO>>>
Nonsense. The US government is a secular one. If anyone is offended, they should schedule their appointments outside Ramadan or any other religious holiday.
Your talking about the same Fu*ckers that blew up Our people on 7/7. The answer is Hell No!! Speaking of Hell, they can all go there!!
It doesn't cause offence if a Muslim sees others eating! They just abstain from sunrise to sunset, unless a medical condition is aggravated. In which case, NHS staff won't cause offence because the Muslim could eat with them!
No, but it will probably happen sooner or later.
Muslims don't get offended when they see you eat during Ramadan. Where did you get that idea from? It's part of their religion, so they abide by not eating ... nothing concerning you or anyone else who is a non-muslim.

Do you get vegetarians being offended when they see you eat meat?

Anyway, they will probably think you're going to hell because you aren't a member of that religion and abiding by their rules, but then all religions do that.
How would that cause offence, i worked with loads of Muslims and during Ramadan would regularly eat my lunch in front of them and wind them up about it and it was all taken as good fun.
I find that people with these sort of views are actually just very ignorant.

My girlfriend works in the royal infirmary in Glasgow and says this has never happened before and it is not happening in September. This rumour was probably started by the same people that said that all the Scottish are getting free prescriptions
I have had a look in the Sunday times website and can find nothing, maybe you could give us a link
No...if the Muslims wish to avoid being offended, they can stay home...without pay.
no we al have a freedom of choice and to be honest its not really offending eating some food.
No.

But, eating at your desk is not good for yourself, and your company. (And in this case our NHS.)

Breaks are just that. Having them at your desk does not let people wind down. Eating at a desk is ultimately bad you the person eating.

So people should be banned from eating at desks, but this has nothing to do with religious minorities, but rather trying to protect a company's workforce.
im sorry but this our country well it use to be .i think its time we had our country back.ship em back
no they should not, nobody force muslims to move here
If this is true then it is wrong.I would just like to know who are the people who think these ideas up and how many muslims were asked for their view on people eating in front of them during Ramadam because the vast majority of muslims I know(and I know quite a lot) are no way offended. They observe there religious beliefs and realise other people have different customs to them and belive it or not a lot of them also think the PC numpties are mad
Personally, I've always thought that eating at your desk should not be acceptable, but not for any religious reason at all. People nearby might be upset by the aroma of your cheese & onion sandwich, for example, or the noise and mess some people make when eating! Furthermore, a break from your desk is important for your efficiency, that's a known fact.

I've had some Muslim colleagues and we've chatted about this very subject in the past. The impression I always got was that they were not bothered - I've been told that if one of them was upset by the sight of food during Ramadan he clearly didn't have the courage of his convictions. Actually a good Muslim friend told me that any Muslim's duty was to his employer first and if it was necessary to eat to maintain working efficiency & safety that was quite acceptable.

I hope I've got this right.
If muslims cant integrate into British society as it is they can go elsewhere.
Thats my poilite answer lol.
I seen it in today's paper and NO why should they - no one asked the Muslims to come to our country, if they must come here then they live by our rules, if we were giving up cakes for lent would they have to stop bringing in cakes for 7 weeks during lent? Glasgow is getting saturated with them and the Polish workers. I am not racist but they are trying to take over our country. The answer from laplandfan: be careful where you tell them to go, my hubby done that and got charged for racial abuse & breach of the peace - waiting outcome from PF.
What??? Are you serious?? Sod causing offence to Muslims!! Nurses get so little breaks and time to eat anyway of course they should be allowed to grab a quick butty or apple at their desks! And as for the food trolley thing, there are other people there who need to eat, so sod offending a few people, you have to care for everyone EQUALLY. Do you hear that any 'equal opportunities' hippies out there? Equality means THE SAME FOR EVERYONE, not special treatment for one small group!!
I don't think they should eat at their desks full stop. I'm not a Muslim and don't do Ramadam, but do find it nauseating, they are at work, they should be working not eating at their desk, they have breaks and canteens I'd be more worried about the mess they make and spills etc on patient records!
This is not PC its downright discrimination against Christians. Why should we have to conform to Islam they certainly do not conform to Christianity. What a nerve They want to live here? They should change, NOT US
Stuff and nonsense! Another example of the liberal PC crowd grovelling to the muslims.
