Handicap Hangtag while driving?
My mother, who lives in Illinois, has a handicap hangtag, and printed on the bottom is "remove while car is in motion" which she does (good for mom). I think that's an important rule as it creates a blind spot for the driver.
My question is if other states have the same instructions printed on the hang tag, and why so many people drive with them in place? It would appear to be a safety hazard, as it blocks the view of traffic towards the right, especially if you are short. Taking it off and storing it takes about 2 to 3 seconds.
I am tempted to encourage my state lawmaker to introduce a bill making it illegal to have anything hanging from the rearview mirror while the vehicle is in motion, since it creates a serious blind spot, which can be avoided.
Answers:
I know that in Wisconsin,Illinois, and California it is illegal to have these tags in the mirror while driving. I agree it's pure laziness, and you're right there should be nothing hanging from the rearview mirror.
so what is your question? You want to know what other state laws are?
Sorry, just a little confused. lol
I can tell you that it is illegal in Connecticut too. But some people are just to lazy to bother. you should just be happy that your mother is not one of those people
Come on if you are going to go after something make it something beside those little things hanging from the rearview mirror. They block very little and almost nothing when driving, you can see around them better than some trees and shrubs that block the vision path of a road.
Go after the fools who drive and talk on cell phones, do you have a cell phone you use when you drive? Then you are a bigger hazard than any hndicap sign!
here in the UK it is also an offense to have anything hanging from the rear view mirror that obstructs the drivers view,,but enforcing the rule is almost impossible
