What do i need to do to delay a court hearing?
I was just served and have to be in court in two weeks! I have to have one week prior aproval for vacation and that will only leave me one week to speak with an attorey. And I've got to have time to come up with retainer for him! Can I file for a delay?
Answers:
Depends on the type of the court and the offense of course. I'm assuming that this is for a minor offense. They are generally accomodating, if this is not a repeat summons. You just have to call the court clerk and talk to him/her.
One of my friends had an EPA court appearance and he was able to get a week's extension.
Time to cancel the vacation, in my opinion.
Don't panic.
If the case is minor, a week is plenty of time to prepare.
If it's major, a week is more than enough for an attorney to prepare and file a Motion for Continuance.
Line up the attorney, and if they are going to file for a Continuance, you don't even need to be in court for that.
If you would like to talk with an attorney about this you can review this website for our services.
