Death & Estate Information?

How do you find information regarding a deceased family member's estate. We have found on the internet that the person died in Dec 2002. We probably need to see the legal & public notices in the local paper but do not live locally so cannot access the library archives. Is there a timeline in which a legal notice must be posted and if so, what is the timeline. Any advice would be greately appreciated

What are you trying to find out? Assuming the Will has gone to probate by now, the Will has become a public document. You can apply to the Probate Registry to obtain a copy - see their website for details, I think it costs about £7.
Public notices would only be published if the executors couldnt find all the beneficiaries or if the person died intestate. The executors would make a judgement as to how long to advertise for and how widely before they distribted the estate. If you are desperate to see the local paper, you could pay someone from a local family history society in the area to go to the library and do a search for you.

Contact the county's Superior Court. Ask them to speak to the Probate department.
I would have thought that you needed to contact a solicitor to act for you on this one. They have access to archives that you cant get hold of. Your best bet is to contact one and give them all the information you know.
Have you tried on line to read a copy of the local paper. Also the local libaries are usually on line.Good Luck.
PS You could phone citizens Advice they will know the legal procedures.
