Sex Offender Stigma?

Every time a sex offender question comes up, the most popular answer involves.. "I HAVE KIDS, or I HAVE GRANDKIDS"

MOST OF THE SEX OFFENDERS ON THE REGISTRY DID NOT MOLEST OR RAPE A CHILD.

Some did; however -

Should ALL registered sex offenders have to live with the stigma of child molestation, a crime that had nothing to do with the crime they committed?

ALSO, should a registered sex offender become a scapegoat when a nutcase murders a child?

Answers:
Sex offenders can't be cured, so they should be shot.

Actually shooting is too good. They should be hung up and used as a pinata by the members of the victim's family.

I see what you're saying, and I actually do agree. But you have to understand that actually, a lot of these people DID something to deserve their title of sex offender. And I dont care what they did to get it, if a sex offender moves in next to me, he's getting his *** kicked regardless. No one will ever touch my kids.
are you a sex offender?
are u gonna get your brother to throw eggs at him too viaj?
Good questions.

There are circumstances by which one could get a "Sex Offender" rap, which, if truly understood, did not really commit a crime at all...for example, in some states a minor male (under 18) may be charged with 'statutory rape' when caught with a minor (under 18) female.

Yeah...

This would apply to practically everyone who had sex while in high school. Thank goodness you weren't 'caught', huh?

I don't think that all these states are going to update their statutes and do away with the 'charges' anytime soon. I would suggest a 'class' system similar to murder raps (class 1, 2, 3, etc.).

Class 3 may be designated to describe the above situation. Classes 2 and 1...I dunno how to classify those. I believe a SERIOUS sex crime is worse than murder.
i've read you can get on a sex offenders list for peeing outside or something and someone sees you. i could see someone getting drunk in some bar and peeing on the street due to his state...but then if some chicks see him or a cop he could get classified as a sex offender. that would suck for him. they should probably change the rules up for stuff like that...maybe give innocent stuff a different name..and save SEX OFFENDER for someone that rapes women and children.
It's human nature, people think about the most vulnerable members of society and that is their kids. Only high risk or violent offenders have to worry about having the public notified about their whereabouts. Getting busted for public urination or statutory sex offenses doesn't make you a high risk offender UNLESS the person is under 16 and you're more than 5 years older.

An 18 year old having sex with a 15 year old won't place you in the high risk category, an 18 year old having sex with a 13 year old probably will. A 25 year old caught messing around with a 15 year old deserves what they get.

Personally I think child molesters should be relocated to outlaying areas so that not only our kids are safe but they're also free of harassment.

They can earn their keep by doing menial jobs for the state. By the way most child molesters repeat their offenses. They should be segregated from society.
Well first off They do classify whether the person is an offender and/or predator. They also list the crime and classification of what it is that was committed, weapons used, force, children etc. I as an adult although I do have a young child, would still want to know for my own safety. I check my local listing on occasion and I see several that are statutory, that I do agree would not be a threat, however I have also seen some heinous cases. I think it should be a per case basis as I've seen young girls as young as 12 and 13 that look well into their early 20's and claim to be in their 20's and of course that could be an unknowing problem till it happens.

Also, not to be long winded with this but to also answer the sex offender scapegoat for nuts that murder children question. Aside from parents, that is always the case, because children murdered by stranger abductions are usually sexually assaulted first by repeat offenders.
A sex offender did the crime to get that title. It's their own fault if they are upset now. They should have kept their nasty hands to themselves and things like this would not happen to them.
I don't believe ALL sex offenders have the stigma of a child molester.
Two days ago I was checking the Megan"s Law listing for registered offenders within a mile of my house. The registration clearly indicates whether the registration is for lewd acts with someone under the age of 14, a minor, or an adult. The stigma is the sex offender label itself though there is a much greater stigma attached to those who prey on the helpless child.

NO ONE should be a scape coat in the justice system. But statistically sex offenders do NOT rehabilitate so if a child murder occurs that has sexual overtones it is good investigative work to look at sex offenders who have preyed on children in the past. It still takes evidence to convict. The past is just a starting point - not an end.

[Actually, in the area I checked the other day, 9 of 14 registered offenders had been convicted of a sex crime involving a child. If this is an indication, your BOLD statement that most sex offenders do not molest or rape children is a false statement. Try checking your own neighborhood & see how it works out.]
