VA child support enforcement is WORTHLESS?
They are just pathetic. There's not enough space on here to describe all they've done to my case. But here's a few important facts:
-20,000 in arrears just vanished in 2001 and became some negative balance in which they applied the interest to..they even stopped adding the monthly court ordered amount ( i've never gotten any public assistance either)
-modified my case without telling me anything about it or attempting to verify the information with me
- currently owed 20,000 in arrears (doesn't even include the 20K that vanished) and they will not help me collect on it
- never return any phone calls or send any documentation on any changes made
The list goes on and on..
Anyways, I'm wondering who is responsible for monitoring their policies? Or better yet..are there any consumer advocate goups who could help me figure out what's going on?
Answers:
If you don't get all the child support you're owed, when the child becomes 18 (in some states, 17), He/she can sue the father for the balance. Contact the Child Advocacy Center in your state and they can explain it to you. They might even have some suggestions for now.
Another way to go is the Dept. of Health & Welfare. They are known to collect the payments from the father themselves, take a small fee out, and send the money to you.
Hope this helps.
You are NOT the first person I have heard this from about VA
To hold bureaucrats responsible, you must be clear, concise, and organized - not your "fault", just the way human beings are. Your story is obviously missing a lot of aspects, but: a) if you have court ordered support; b) the person ordered to provide support has VA assistance coming in; c) the court-ordered support has been presented properly to the VA; d) you SHOULD be getting something, even though; e) it might not be all you want or are due since the VA will not beggar someone to pay someone else - that is, will not send you ALL that they could at the expense of someone they are helping. To get the right reaction from the VA, you should be very careful to make sure your requests and documentations are clearly part of public record, clearly building documentation of their lack of response for action against individuals within the organization - you have to make them think of themselves as individuals - that is, "Wow! I'm going to be held responsible for this!" You need to copy your attorney, your own record file, your congressional representative, the directors of the Veterans Administration, and anyone else, with certified communications for which you clearly will have records - actually list who you are copying on your correspondence. Hopefully, then you will get some action, or at least build the case for who you will be suing next!
Most of us feel this way about the govt.. those of us they claim to work for have known about their incompetence for years..and we know where you're coming from.
Of course you get some wanna-be govt moron who comes around to try to and convince us that we're the ones giving this country a bad name...sorry Maconprograms, we know the real deal.
Good Luck
