What do you think about the new "Romeo and Juliet" sex offender laws?

You know, the laws now that state if you have sex when you are in high school and get caught, you can get up to a year in prison and listed as a sex offender (BOTH THE MALE AND FEMALE).

Both of you being under 18. THATS RIGHT... the thing most everybody did in high school will now get you registered as a sex offender FOR LIFE!

Your thoughts?

Answers:
I work in a treatment center for kids that are sex offenders and 2 of our boys out of 80 so's do have this status, both of them were in consensual relationships and the girls parents caught them and they are both on adult probation with sex offender status for life.
The girls did not have anything done to them at all.
The girls parent's charged the boys.
Both were sent to adult jail before they were sent for treatment
These 2 are innocent and should never have gone to jail,
but the other 78 are actual sex offenders, most of them pedophiles (meaning at like 15 they were raping or molesting young children under the age of like 9 many much younger than that)
So while I think it's horrible that some innocents get charged, there are many more on juvenile probation that ends at 18 who are actual rapists and pedophiles and should be locked up permanently and most of them will be out on the streets at 18.
Most, like at least 75% reoffend within 5 years.
Parents whose girls that are having relationships should handle it like Parents, teach them better, ground them, take away the keys, not let them see the boy, move them to a new school etc, not charge boys that don't deserve it.
Kids doing stuff that kids have always done should not get jail for it. Only real criminals should go to jail.

Did you know that if a boy even grabs a girls bra from behind like they used to in middle school they could be sent for so treatment?

A ridiculous law and a ridiculous set of circumstances that could be prevented if parents took charge of raising their children and left the courts out of it. We have become so government driven that we are going to hell in a basket. Come on.
You can thank the Liberal Democrats for that one
About time they did that.
Why dont they burn our privates and let us suffer for the rest of our lives, that law if it exists it s*cks.
Is that a federal or state law, and which political party supported it?
That would have to be a state law..age of consent in Minnesota and Arkansas is 16.
Sounds like a pretty stupid idea to me. If there's a small age difference between the partners, it doesn't seem to me that anybody is taking advantage of anybody else. If you have a huge age gap, then that's another can of worms entirely, and should be dealt with.
Unless your are in a state I haven't heard of, the "Romeo and Juliet" laws protect teens from going to prison for consensual sex. If you pay attention to the news, there is a man by the name of Genarlow Wilson, who at 17, was sentenced to 10 years for consensual oral sex with a 15 year-old girl. Georgia now has a "Romeo and Juliet" law that would have kept him out of jail but refuses to make this law retro-active.
Talk about injustice. search his name on the web and get the full story. His sentence was turned over but the GA attorney general is still keeping him in jail. Sad.
I agree with it, and I am a registered Republican.

We passed that law here in Indiana.

Kids make mistakes, they should not have a criminal record for having sex,,, really.
Never heard of the Romeo and Juliet law, but to give you an idea of what the legal age of consenual sex is in your state(because you never mentioned which state) go to this website created after the 5th amendment.
