Why is it illegal to sell your organs? Say you want to sell a kidney, you have one to spare, so why can't we?

Isn't the U.S. a free market system driven by commerce? Why should this be any different? Not trying to be a jerk, I know the "poor" would be sacrificed if they needed an organ while the rich could immediately get what they needed. BUT, the poor could also sell theirs to get money. We do it with plasma, you get like $30 to donate. So why is this so different? If we have a standard for "medical" morals and ethics, why does it not apply across the board to other types of commerce, industry and business? Why are we so hypocritical? Where does it stop and start?

i seriously agree with you. i feel they need these organs so bad and if i want to sell it i should be allowed to do so especially if i have a spare like when it comes to kidneys
You can donate it for free but you can't sell it for money. It's immoral. Why? Ask any religion. You can ask your parents too.
According to experts its a matter of ethics. It is yours but you cannot sell it. You can fill out a donation card and when you die then your organs can be taken. The problem can be reversed, the poor can sell their organs to get money and the rich can buy them, but when its time for the poor to buy one, could they then afford to buy? I wouldn't think so! good question.
