Why is it that you can die for your country at age 18 but can't have a beer until 21or even rent a car...?
just wondering why?
Answers:
Drinking age of 21 never made sense to me , basically its an over reaction to drunk driving. You can drink a beer in most places in Europe at 14-16 years old.
Its actually a bit underhanded the way the Feds inforce this also , they can't make a national drinking age , its a states rights issue. But what they do is blackmail the states with refusal to give them Highway money if they don't make it 21.
Rent a car...who knows? But I don't think that is a law , might be just policy for the rental company
the politics of safety.
dont forget rent a hotel room.
The beer thing is because your liver isn't completely developed until 21.at least that's what they say LOL.
Not really sure about the car renting.maybe insurance purposes?
don't know if it's true but i heard the rules are different if you're in the army...
Just because you can die for our country at 18 doesn't make it right.
Because there is a double standard in our country. Either accept it or do something about it. Personally I like recalling politicians as a method for change. Nothing like seeing a politician disgraced.
Shoot...I thought you couldn't really rent a car until 25.
As far as alcohol goes, they say the frontal lobe doesn't fully develop until 21
I know because they so unfaithful T_T
That is a good question. But you aren't going to get an answer.
Due to the fact that it's so easy to get a driver's license in this country they don't want people under 21 drinking and driving. In other countries where the drinking age is 16 for beer and 18 for hard liquor it is much more difficult to get a driver's license. It's kind of bogus but that's the reasoning I've been given. We have the highest drinking age of anywhere else in the world. Most other places is 18 or less!
Renting a car is the companies policy, not law. If you have an issue with that, take it up with them. I remember trying to rent a car once. I was like 23 out of the Army and had been a cop for a few months. No dice
As for the drinking age, I agree, it should be 18.
Because it doesnt take much brains to grab a gun and shoot at people and die for your country. But a drunk driver behind the wheel could do a heck of a lot of damage, that's why.
I wondered that way back in 1965. I still haven't figured it out. Because the government says so I guess.
very valid question!
I couldn't explain it though!
this is america
go figure?
the government does not take 18 year old citizens seriously because they don't vote. If all 18 year olds voted the politicians would decrease insurance rates, lower drinking age and gun ownership age to reflect the voter or their "constituency"
Well, the main reason you can't is because you don't vote. If all between ages 18-21 began voting, politicians would listen to what you have to say and laws would change.
I think you should be able to rent a car. I don't think they should raise the age limit for drinking, although I would be for allowing anyone in the military the right to drink alcohol.(Oh no, I may have unwittingly come up with a new recruiting method for Bush and Co.)
Good question.
No answer can justify that kind of hypocrisy.
Because our current laws are based on the old laws (like had to be 21 to own property, etc.) and they never get updated.
Bcuz I dont wanna dodge drunk 18 year olds on the roads and hiways
lol, i don't know
the age has to be 18 because thats when the recruiters can brainwash you to enlist.
So you'd rather kill someone in a car while drunk driving than kill an enemy of America with a rifle? How selfish can you get? WAIT, don't answer that.
Because they say so. Really, you can do whatever you want as long as you keep your mouth shut and don't cause any trouble. The laws are more like public guidelines. When I was in the Navy, my military ID got me alcohol in certain places just because certain individuals agree with you. The voting thing is wrong. Voting can never be done to reflect an age group. Everyone else has a say so on if they drink too. It takes one person of ANY age in ANY state to get enough suppoters to push it through. Thing is, nobody cares about that right now.
