Retail Theft?
Soo.. my boyfriend was recently accused of trying to steal sandals at our local Ron Jons Surf Shop. He has to write a 500 word essay on "Retail theft in your community". He's working right now earning us some money, so I figured I would help get him started. I know that obviously when people steal, it causes the company to have to hire more security, ect. But I seriously don't know how to start this, or what to include. Any ideas?

Theft is responsible for a great deal of mark up on a product.
If you steal one thing the store may have to sell three just to cover the cost of one.
This results in higher prices by way of security and margins that will cover the loss. This extra cost is not only passed back onto the thief however every other consumer.
Higher prices usually result in greater theft. It is an endless circle.
If he was asked to do it, he should do all of it or else he won't achieve the purpose of writing the essay. Learning is the purpose, if you do it for him he hasn't learned it, you have.
Well, the most obvious effect of retail theft is that it causes co-dependent girlfriends to take the punishment instead of the crook. So when people steal, it has impacts far beyond anything obvious. Why is your self-esteem so low that you would help a shoplifter get away without being punished?
What's the matter? He doesn't come home after working? His fingers are too tired to pick up a pen and paper and write the essay? What's going to happen next time? Are you going to jack the stuff he wants for him?
