Can I use copyrighted music for a minute long video to be used for a non-profit organization?

I am putting together a very brief video for a non-profit organization (a school to be exact.) What do I have to do if I want to use a certain song as background music? I'm not sure which song that I will use yet, but it probably won't be anything in the public domain. What are the laws or steps that go with using a copyrighted song?

Answer:
Contact the holder of the copyright (BMI?) for permission to use it. You may have to pay a fee.

You can't without getting the rights from the artists who recorded that music.
What YOU are makes no difference. If someone else owns it, then you must get permission to use it, or you are violating the law. Contact the record lable and ask who owns it, or for permission. That is the only legal way...
