Why aren't lie detectors used in murder cases if they are so accurate?
One would then know if the accused is guilty/not guilty
Answers:
They will always leave an element of doubt because it is a machine performing quite a complicated job, and the doubt it, it just may be reading something wrong, or the person being tested may have been prompted to react in a certain way by some outside infuence. It's just that element of doubt.
There still has to be hard evidence beyond any reasonable doubt to get a conviction anyway, which alone renders the lie detector irrelevent. However the police look at it as more of way to eliminate a suspect, although they will still take evidence into account.
They're not admissible in court.
They are not admissible in court. They can, however, be used to get the offender to admit the deed. The lie detector can also help develop leads so they can find the proof they need.
They're not 100% accurate.
I dont really think they are that accurate
BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT 100% ACCURATE, AND SOME SICKO'S CAN MANIPULATE THE MACHINE... THE REAL PSYCHO PATHS!
because sociopaths are very good liars and very capable of passing a lie dector. die detectors sense changes in blood pressure and pulse, based on a persons anxiety. sociopaths generally don't respond as a normal person would as they have no real conscious. hope this helps.
ps.men who cheat...also good at this
they know he murdered the person
they arn't 100% accurate, but hey what is
if a person actually believes they aren't lying like deluded people then no it wont give an accurate reading
Lie detectors detect certain symptoms that a liar gets such as increased heart rate. However, their is no way to tell if the person is lying or if they are just nervous. On the other hand, a person could be a practiced liar and pass the test while lying anyway. Their accurate, but not accurate enough.
They measure a change in heart rate, that's all. Psychopaths and people with personality disorders are good at 'cheating' lie detector tests. They tend to be pathological liars who have the ability to believe their own lies.
I have often wondered this myself specially in american why dont they use it before they exacute a innoncent person
Because they aren't accurate and a psychopath could be that manipulative to pass it.
Lie detectors involve your breathing and heart rate, people that are able to commit heinous crimes probably can remain very cool not changing their breathing or heart rate... thus the reason why they aren't admissible in court.
Lie detectors are NOT repeat NOT accurate if the accused is a sociopath or a psychopath, because they totally believe that their own lies are the truth. They can lie all day and not show an indication on the lie detector.
Also, it is relatively easy to beat a lie detector, but I will not tell you how to do it.
I always thought ,one could beat the lie detector by putting a pebble in his shoe, and when lying, press down ,the pain gives a false reading .
its proven they can be beaten there not 100 percent accurate so that's not enough to convict someone
You see darling it's like this.
They are not accurate. They can be fooled. They measure body functions such as pulse rate, respiration rate, and skin conductivity (sweating). These, in turn, are controlled by the persons psychological and psychiatric make up. A person who can say anything and believe it to be true, a true antisocial such as a murderer likely would be, could pull it off and fake out the machine.
They are not accurate and I really resent law enforcement harassing people about it. The news media convicts people based on whether they took the test or not and that is completely not right.
I was used in an example in a psychology class for using a lie detector test. The test indicated that I lied about my name, place of birth and current boyfriend. My guess is that it was do entirely to the hormone problems I was having at the time. It certainly proved to me that it's just hocus pocus and an attempt to bully people into admitting crimes/actions that they may or may not have done just to get the interrogations to stop.
Because they are not accurate, they should not be used, not only in the court room, not even by the police in investigating a crime.
in the UK they are inadmissable in court as they are seen as not providing the court with absolute proof.
They're not admissible in court because they're not 100% accurate. The SAS are trained to manipulate them. However the some states of the U.S it is used in court i believe.
I don't think they are that accurate.
They used to say its 98% accurate, and now when you watch Jeremy Kyle it's 96%. And everytime someone comes out lying and they're claiming they aren't he's like oh so you're one of the 4%, and acts like he knows everything! And i'm shouting at his smug face on the telly, 4 out of every 100 are telling the truth so why cant it be him!!
It would be interested to do one to see if you can fool it!
They are accurate only if the subject is not aware of the detector being on. An accomplished liar can beat the detector because he always lies. A person can train to be a liar and therefore beat the machine.
Yes,they are very accurate.Yet even in countries where the evidence is admissable,it is contributory rather than pivotal.
England a place where the government and the justice system is possibly more corrupt than the public, would the authorities have more to fear from them? What's sauce for the goose..
Governments would come crashing and the police would have to free those they "fitted up" to meet their targets.
I agree,do away with expensive trials and courts bring on Jeremy and his wee machine,( and the results say... you were lying) off to jail you scoundrel.!
Because somebody can black-out or be deluded or mentally ill enough to actually believe they are innocent or guilty. They could be on mind altering drugs, or have been drinking heavily, or had temporary memory loss during the crime. All the above would interfere with the results of a lie detector test.
Lie detectors however accurate are machines which have no responsibility. There is nothing to replace a jury who make the decisions on behalf of the state.
they are not accurate and can be defeated easily when you know how
