What is the current law on prostitution in the U.K?

I'm sure I heard that you could now open a brothel as long as there were only two people working there, is that true? Just asking because I'm looking for a career change ;-)

Answers:
A popular misconception regarding UK and prostitution in the UK is that is it NOT illegal to be a prostitute of offer sexual services for money or other remuneration. The illegality is committed in the act of "soliciting" - this means essentially to "entice" or "procure". The is why most girls who walks the streets can be convicted because they are soliciting.

If a woman operates (commonly referred to as "working girls") from her own premises and works as a prostitute it is perfectly legal. If 2 or more girls operate from the same premises this constitutes a brothel and is a criminal offence. The present Government have looked at proposals to change this but this legislation has, to my knowledge, not been implemented.

Unless the law has changed operate from your own premises. Alternatively, consider working on your own as an "escort". Escorting is a very grey area of the law and although prostitution does sometimes occur between an escort and client the law if powerless as they are unable to prove anything. After all if a client and escort do like each other and then decide to have sex what's wrong in that? Sex is not a criminal offence!

Hope this helps!

you have to pay too find out.

Prostitution IS legal in the UK. What is illegal is kerb-crawling and street-walking. It is also illegal to run a brothel - which is why so many of them go by the name of "massage parlour". The staff will only tell you about the "extras" once you are inside and they can suss you out.

And, no. I have never been to one!!

I do believe that prostitution should be legalised (not just decrimalised) in the UK. It is never going to stop and at least the lives of the workers and their clients will be safer.
Dont do it have some self resprect
Honestly, I think it is forbidden.
And I don't think you are right to become prostitute...
Prostitution in itself is not illegal but soliciting for the purposes is, ie walking the streets or advertising. A brothel is considered to be more than two women working from the same premise, as it always has been. You cannot legitimately 'open' a brothel as a business, but if clients go to your premises without your solicitation ie taking them there after picking them up by soliciting for business then it's unlikely you would be prosecuted - after all, who's going to make the complaint? If it's seriously what you want to do, just be very careful!
