How long does an estate take to go through probate in the U.K.?
There is a house and plot of land to be sold which will taake time but once the sale is complete, roughly how long will it take for everything to go through probate as I have just been told I have inherited something. Just wondered how long, as this is a total surprise inheritance! This is in England and nobody is contesting the will or anything similar. Thanks.x

It varies. My neighbours house is going through probate at the moment, and its been 6 weeks so far with no sign of it ending any time soon. The fact that there is a will and no one is contesting it helps, but it still takes time... up to about 3 months in the best case senario.
Usually it should take around three months from my knowledge.
It really depends on how complicated the estate is and if there are any other contestants. Usually it only takes a couple of months for all the paperwork to be done. They will make sure all the taxes and that kind of thing are paid. Then no doubt you will be paid. You could ask to see a copy of the will and you will know from that how much you might inherit. I assume though your part is coming once the estate has been sold and the funds are divided up.
In the area where I lived it usually takes between 2-3 months .
Under normal circumstances it takes less than 6 months
all bills will have to be paid from the estate plus taxes of course. you may be granted probate quite quickly if searches prove no other beneficiary you will have had an interview with a solicitor who got himself appointed by the probate court (a nice little earner) let him get it through probate and remember every letter meeting telephone call made will cost the Estate in other words your inheritance.
