Someone wants to get me fired?
I work in Tucson, AZ and I used to manage an employee who was promoted to senior secretary who is trying to get me fired by claiming I revealed personal info about her when in actuality, she told others. She and her friends always gang up on people and I'm worried they're going to back up her claims. Now I can't remember what I said YESTERDAY for goodness sake but I don't recall telling anyone. Again, I can't say for certain because I just don't remember revealing any information. But I know she told others in which case, I can't help what gets around. I know others know because they've mentioned it to me. She’s never liked me and now she sees an opportunity to get rid of me. I’ve done a really good job for my boss, my reviews are great and I have a great working relationship with the sales staff I manage. I would hate to get fired because she and her friends decided they don't want me there. I moved to Tucson for this job and I don't want to lose it because of this clan of evil doers.

There's nothing I hate more than office politics and malicious backstabbing coworkers, but it seems that some people don't have enough work to do to keep them better occupied. If you suspect that the senior secretary has some ulterior motive for getting rid of you, then perhaps you can arrange to have a private conversation with her and secrete a tape recorder in your pocket to catch any incriminating statements she makes. Just be careful and check if that's legal in your state. And hey, perhaps you two might even iron out your differences if you both remain objective and respectful towards each other. Otherwise, you can maybe defend yourself by stating that you didn't mention any information about her that wasn't already considered common knowledge throughout the office. Best of luck. And next time, don't engage in any office gossip regardless of whether you start it or not because then you're making yourself part of the problem.
start recording that crap discreetly. or have a conversation on the d.l. with your boss. if the boss is that cool, then maybe he already sees the games being played. then again, just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you.
I think under the circumstances the best thing to do is get the upper hand. Go to your boss ASAP and explain the situation as calmly and rationally as possible. Tell him how it is affecting your work. And tell him you wanted him to know because this situation could lead to a workplace lawsuit.
Start documenting as much information about what is going on for as far back as you can remember. From that point on keep a daily record of everything she does and says to you or others about you as well as the things she does to make your job more difficult.
If there are others that see the same thing you are seeing make sure the names of these people are recorded as well as the times and dates of the incidents.
If your boss is completely satisfied with your performance ask for a meeting. Tell him/her you need advice on a work matter. Discuss these issues with them explaining you would like to know what would be the best way to handle it so as to maintain harmony in the company.
