Is martyrdom greater than a long life?
Are Muslim children being taught that the after life is what they they should be planing and working for?
Answers:
I think that would depend on what it is that you're martyring yourself to. I'm not to impressed with those who strap bombs on themselves and blow themselves up for Allah. I feel a bit sorry for them because I think they've been brainwashed and have such miserable lives that this form of martyrdom is attractive to them. The martyrs I do have great respect for are those who died promoting peace: Jesus, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., John Lennon. Sad but interesting that popular leaders who simply advocate getting along and working together for the common good don't live very long.
Yes, Muslim children are being taught that the afterlife is what they should be planning for. Christian children are taught the same thing. You want to go to heaven, don't you?
The difference in theology is that Christians celebrate long life. "SOME" (not all) Muslims figure that since you are going to die anyway, you may as well do something great in Allah's name and go to heaven that much sooner. This is why many of the "Martyrs" come from poverty and other desperate situations. It is easier to leave a miserable existence with no hope for the future if the Imam promises you a prominent place in heaven.
When ur community is in danger, u have to come forward to rescue them from the cruel clutches of oppressors. In that case u can die for the shake of humanity.
In Islam, muslims fight only when their relion & life is in danger. Muslim never attack others first. To rescue the life & religion, it is better to die than to live the life of a coward. In that sense martyrdom is greater & better. But islam does not allow any kind of brutality.
In my opinion, if they are dumb enough to strap on a bomb and kill themselves then they deserve what they get and in my book that means hell. Strapping the bombs to kids is a sin greater than all.
better to die for sumthing than live for nothing?
