Where should I make complaint regarding product exchange?

Hello,

We recently bought a single duvet cover from a home store, went home and realize we need double duvet cover. So we went back to the store the next day. The sales associate took the cover with her to look for the manager and it took them about 10 mins before the manager comes out and tells us they will not exchange it. Not only did they not exchange it, they accused us of washing it, asking us why it is damp, meaning that we have shrunk the cover after washing therefore taking it to exchange.

We were very mad at their accusations and using it as their excuse for not exchanging it. The store has an "exchange in 14 days" policy and it is a small store (only 2 locations). I believe the manager is one of the owners of the store.

Should I write a complaint letter to the company first? If they did not reply, where to may I place my complaint

Answers:
first write a letter to the owners complaining and requesting ( not demanding but requesting) a refund ( even if they give you store credit you can say that in the letter) if their is a no you write the BBB (better business burrow ) from your state and complain if that does not work their is nothing left you can write a letter to you state Ag( attorney general ) stating that the item was purchased with the guarantee that their would be a 14 day return policy and state that it was not washed before the clerk too it in the back they probably wont help another option of last resort is those news channels that have investigator reporters that might help but the Ag and news Chanel are last resort and if that does not work sell it a lawn sail or donate it

They have every right to deny your exchange if they feel you have used the product. If the store manager is the owner I don't think writing to them would do any good. The only other thing you could do is check out the Better Business Bureau, they may be able to assist you.
I agree a logical next step could be to try the BBB. You can also try sending them a letter through a site called Planetfeedback.com. There are other sites that can help you get in touch with the company as well, like My3cents.com, etc.

Some of these internet services/sites will post your story and then send a notification to the company. Once the company sees your story posted live on the web, they are more likely to respond favorably to help get the review resolved or removed from the web... since it is bad PR for them.

Hope this helps!
Call the Better Business Bureau. They will contact the store immediately and things should get better from there. The BBB is usually a good way to scare them into doing what they should have in the first place.
