Do doctors kill more people than guns?

I saw a statistic that said they kill 17.8 percent of patients "actidentaly".

How is it possible to make that many mistakes, does this count things out of thier control that happend or just dumb mistakes?

Answers:
Such statistics are misleading.

How many people die from seeing a doctor (at a hospital, of course)? Let's say 17 %. That's probably wrong, but let's go with it.

That sounds like a lot, but it isn't when you consider what *could* have happened.

How many victims of fatal gunshot wounds would have ended up dead if they HADN'T been shot?

0%.

How many medical patients would have ended up dead if they HADN'T seen a doctor? A whole lot more than 17%.

Nothing in life is perfect, doctors included. You just have to go with what gets you the best odds of coming out on top. And doctors generally work in your favor in that regard.

Doctors kill 1 out of 6 patients accidentally? If that were true, nobody would go to the hospital.

You might want to check this statistic again. It either came from an unreliable source, or was misinterpreted.
Dumb mistakes. I've actually heard a doctor laughing about various "medical mistakes." People like that should be charged with criminal negligence.
I have never heard a report of a doctor killing a gun, so I'm going to have to say that doctors kill more people.
Yes.

It is called "Medical misadventures."

Failing to make a diagnosis, failing to treat properly, giving the wrong medication and/or the wrong dose, etc.
Well, doctors rarely kill people on purpose. Guns rarely kill people accidentally. You figure it out.
Well, as far as some of these supposedly "great" new meds go, I'll bet there'll be plenty of "accidental" deaths and complications in the future to prove your point, because they push meds on everyone for everything. Just hang in there, and don't take pills they don't give you a reason for giving you, then you can sit with the rest of us and laugh while the American medical association and drug companies get ripped apart by random attorneys...
17.8% is probably not correct, however I believe the actual number in ~400,000 per year, which would mean that doctors kill about 10 times as many people as are murdered by all means, not just guns.

Of course, unlike patients, guns are inanimate objects, so doctors can not actually kill them, unlike all those patients that they kill.
