What ethical obligations do we have to animals? Do/would you support animal rights? If yes or no, why?
Answers:
The problem with animal rights organizations is that they have already shown their hand. Most Americans do not want dogs eyes being bleached out for better household chemicals or make-up . . . However, anyone who remembers the animal rights movement of the late 80's and early 90's understands that these organizations are not content to ban just unnecessary cruelty. They want all forms of medical testing banned as well as most farming techniques. This is why the organizations can not be trusted. We are talking about a group of people who put the lives of beagles above children dieing of cancer. They clearly can not be trusted.
There are million of animal starving and being riped apart in the wild, we must protect them. We must teach wild Lyons to eat oatmeal,
No outfit that wants to cut my jewels off should call its self a Humane Society.
Well, common sense applies. The lives of people must come before animals. However, you can't just go around abusing animals, either. Testing should be done when required, but they shouldn't be making them monsters, either. If you're going to have a pet, treat it well, no abuse. Again, common sense.
I think that animals were put on the earth to sustain us in one form or another. It's very hard to eat when you can't eat dairy or eggs. We even use animal waste to fertilize our vegetables. I don't think there's much of a way to get away from using animals and their by-products.
I realize that some conditions in which animals are farmed are hideous. That's just the way it is. Life isn't all roses. Having said that, I do however, think we have some obligation to give our domesticated animals food, water and shelter. I think we have a moral obligation to punish those people who abuse, neglect or mistreat animals. I think we have an obligation to be responsible pet owners and have our pets spayed/neutered too. I think it's irresponsible to add to the pet population indiscriminately.
I support animal rights, but only to a certain degree.
I hear all the time that people's rights have to come first. Why does there have to be a choice? Why can't we protect both people and animals. If all these people wearing fur would realize that a huge percentage of it comes from animals skinned alive in China, perhaps they would think twice about it. I support animal rights and human rights both. I think this world could be a lot kinder in its treatment of all living beings. Live cruelty free to both animals and people. Be aware of how things are made and what procedures are used in making them. To live as a vegetarian is to live a far more healthy life. I did so because of heart problems but I feel better than I ever have before. Look up the PETA site and they have good information about products and which ones use cruel methods in research and production. As far as animal testing goes, their systems are different from human and the reactions might be entirely different.so why do it. If you know something is caustic or toxic it does not take Einstein to know that it is going to harm. Know where your clothes are made and know if a 12 year old is denied an education to make them for pennies a day. Live responsibly to the world. Use ethics in your whole life not just in business. Pain is pain, regardless if it is human or animal.
There does not have to be a choice...live causing harm to none, human or animal.
animals have the right to be hunted for food, not hunted just for the fun of killing them. i do beleive that some farming situations are pretty bad BUT they are being raised to be eaten. killing and maming animal for fur i dont agree with UNLESS it is say an animal just say a deer, that you hunted and killed for meat go ahead and skin it use everything on it if you please but if you killed a deer took its hide and left the carcass there to rot i don't agree with.animal right differ from country to country. In CHINA (just read this on yahoo) do too increased pollution and LACK of air and water standards, the first MAMMAL in 50 years is now probably extinct, it was the fresh water dolphin. also circumstances prove that if we dont keep some animal populations down diseases WILL run rampet in those animals communities.
People Eating Tasty Animals.
Animals are 99% of my daily food intake. While I have pets and treat them with care, I don't think it makes sense to give animals rights by the law, other than outlawing animal cruelty like it already is.
Note: If we started giving animals rights, eventually it'd become illegal to hunt them and eat them for food, then we'd all turn into those skinny anemic vegan people with brain chemical imbalances. That'd not be fun or an improvement for society.
In general, the main obligation we have towards animals is to serve them with a nice brown sauce, right next to the mashed potatoes.
I love amimals
Especialy with Mayonaise !
I'm not a vegetarian, although I was once.
I think that the problem is that we don't think about the animal. We have simply chosen to deny that our actions cause much pain and suffering.
If, for example, you were able/forced to look into the eyes of a cow/pig/chicken as it was slaughtered, you would see their fear, and hesitate to eat them.
The biblical quotes of man being over animals do not sway me. It's all a matter of convenience. Man is not, necessarily, the most important animal on the planet. In fact, one could argue that man is like a cancer to the planet. No other animal has the power to destroy it.
Animals don't have rights , however some goofy folks think they do
