How do I find a lawyer in my state/county that has a license in another state/county?

Basically, my family's car was hit in Tennessee (don't know exactly where) but they live in Illinois. They want to call a Laywer, just to make sure the insurance company doesn't stiff them, or whatever.

So, this is a tricky one. How do I find a lawyer where they live who also has a license in Tennessee? They've already tried an attorney here but he says TN laws are different, and it has to be from there. I guess I could go through the phone book and call every single one in town and the surrounding areas, but that would take a very long time. Is there an easier way, maybe online references? I've searched but I can't find anything on it.

any help is appreciated, thanks!

Answer:
You need a Tennessee lawyer. It doesn't matter where else they are licensed, or if they are licensed at all anywhere else, but they must be licensed in Tennessee.

It is a little inconvenient if you are in IL and your lawyer is in Tennessee, but with mail, telephones and email, you can still be represented well by a Tennessee lawyer. The likelihood that you will find even one lawyer in IL who is licensed in TN and practices this type of law is pretty low.

If you still think that's really want you want, trying calling the referral service of the Tennessee state bar. They might have a way to track this down for you.

Call the Illinoise state bar lawyer referral number. They need to find a lawyer licensed in the state that the accident happened in which I believe you said was Tenessee. So ask the bar to let you know if any have a license for Tennessee as well.
