Possession of Marijuana is only a misdemeanor in most States, which means they will take your weed away from you, give you a ticket/summons to appear in Court and pay a fine (usually about $100). If you are caught smuggling weed at the airport, that is a felony, and you can expect to be arrested, put in jail until your arraignment and then have a date set for trial (or plead to a lesser charge) If it is your first offense, you will probably get off with a fine and probation, unless you are smuggling a large amount, then the Government will want to make an example out of you and prosecute you hard.
The best way to bring it through is in an airtight sealed bag stuffed in your crotch. Watch out for the sniffing dogs! You can't get around them.
Smuggling is not a good idea. Grow it in your backyard !

What happens when you get caught with pot (not in an airport) depends on how much you have. If you only have a gram or two, you may get a ticket. If you have an ounce or more, some states consider that possession with intent to distribute, and you may go to jail.
Do not under any circumstances take drugs to the airport. Odds are security will find it. Transporting over certain amounts triggers mandatory sentencing - the judge has to sentence you to jail, sometimes for 20 years. Buy the drugs when you get where you're going.
