Does anyone know the legal status of marijuana in california right now?

What is the punishment for possessing marijuana? Are there any circumstances when it is legal to have it?

Answers:
Simple possession of less than one ounce of marijuana is a misdemeanor carrying a maximum penalty of a $100 fine (which works out to around $350 with assessments). More than one ounce is a misdemeanor carrying a maximum 6 months in jail and a fine of $500 (around $1,800). An ill person can get a recommendation from a doctor to use "medical marijuana," which precludes prosecution under state law.

Note, however, that federal law still makes marijuana possession a crime, despite the best efforts of Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and others. I have not seen federal prosecutions for simple possession of small amounts of marijunana, but they are theoretically possible.

It really doesn't matter what California's legal status is as it is against federal law!

Having Marijuana in Denver is legal, but still against federal law, which over-rides any state or local law!

Depends on how much, and whether it was for possession or intent to sell!
here in california a person w illnesses severe can be licensed for a certain amount ! infact here there are ads in newspapers by legit doctors letting people know they can be treated w medicinal marijuana. here we also have dozens of dispensaries where once u show your license(215) u can buy various kinds of herbs, baked goods etc. my nephew is licensed to sell and he owns a cookie company called Dolly whos, i think its on google dictionary.hope this helped answer your Q...goodluck
