Would it be wrong for me to report benefit theft?
My step sister has been committing benefit fraud and thinks it really funny to brag about all the money she has and what she spends it on. Would it be wrong of me to report her, as i think its really unfair that she is doing this while hard working people struggle and do it the right way, or would it be wrong of me to report her after all she is family.
Answer:
There is more than one way to skin a cat without being a snitch, tell your stepsister that you overheard a customer in a shop talking about her and her benefit fraud so she ought to stop it straight away before she goes to jail, without passing GO.
If this does not stop her then be more forceful, get her to be ashamed of herself, show her news stories of people who are jailed for what she has done and what will happen to her family whilst she is in jail; if that does not work she will be too stupid to respond in a positive way so go ahead report her, at least you gave her a chance.
I do not like the snitching society that the Government has cultivated and bred here in the UK over the last two decades; the trust has gone out of society for decades and snitching is not bringing any trust back into society; rather the mistrust just gets worse.
I regard snitching, particularly against family and friends as being on par with Gatsco Speed Camera's, Congestion charge fines, Using Mobile Phone whilst driving fines and Parking fines, especially where they get you on a technicality.
To give you an analogy, look at how many more people are now carrying penalty points on their licenses and paying congestion and parking fines. Does all this automatic snitching make people more resentful or welcoming to the spread of a Police State? will it make them better able to snitch on others, I think not. Rather most will resent the expensive unwelcome intrusion into their hardworking lives.
The UK is now practically a Police State, I know it protects against real criminals and terrorists but I feel as though my privacy has been taken away and the Government is taking ever more liberties, watching our every move like an overprotective mother as she scolds her children unnecessarily.
I hope that this never happens in America, one of the few places in the West of true freedom where there is somewhere to escape to.
report her! it ain't fair on us normal people!
it must be hard but you have to do it sometimes, i mean how many people struggle trying to get money?
yet again...if asylum seekers and all that lot can get benefits & a house why cant she?
xx
No do it right away - it makes me sick i only have one friend on benefits and she hates the fact that she has the live on handouts - tell her to stop and if she doesnt report it.
Report her, why should she be allowed to get away with it. She need never know it was you.
I would report her - it is a criminal offence and unfair on the people who desperately need help
You cant grass on your own family!
Even if she is a thieving parasite, (lol)
no, i don't think so as long as you do it anonymously i don't see why not, my partner and i struggle to get by doing the legal way and it is hard and then some people just don't do anything and get everything which really annoys me,
the question is would you feel lots of guilt if she did get caught because of you?
I think maybe you should try talking to her first, if she was really poor and was doing it to try to make ends meet then I would say no, but her attitude doesn't sound very healthy, just be careful and if you plan to do it make sure it for the right reasons and not because you are jealous (and I mean that in a nice way)
tell her to start saving, cos she'll have to pay it back when someone grasses on her. then wink. tell her toi give you half and you wont grass.
hate grasses, but also hate cheats.
Tell your sister how you feel. But leave the reporting to the agencies who will eventually catch up to her anyway.
No report it. You can do it anonymously. It is not fair on any of us .
You should report her. After all, its us that are paying for the benefits she is getting!
Simply put:NO ! Do what's right!
politicians do it all the time.
No it wouldn't be wrong so report her, if you don't you are condoning her behaviour.
It would be the right thing to do especially if she is bragging about it,she needs a dose of reality
Report her. Why should she get hand outs and then cheat when others work hard and struggle through financial hardship.
Bragging just shows a total lack of intelligence on her part.
Beneift fraud is theft. It's that simple.
Report her! Thats my (our) hard earned tax payers money going to someone who most certainly does not deserve it!!
I think you should definitely report her, unless she's struggling hugely to make ends meet (in which case I'd just tell her how you feel about what she's doing).
People like her are responsible for increasing the amount of tax the average hard-working person has to pay. Imagine if there were no benefit cheats, we'd all have more take-home pay every year! And there would be more benefits for those who actually need them.
It's a hard moral situation but I think I'd either speak to her and then if she doesn't stop then inform someone, or just inform someone. Good luck!
report it now!! there is a limited amount of money to go around and if someone is stealing it there is less for the people that really need it.
Turn her sorry *** in.
It wouldn't be worng, because that money could have gone to a better use. You can report her annomosly, jsut go to your local police station and give a stament.
sorry to hear about your step sister
if you think you can live with her going to court or even prison
fraud is fraud but if you get found out it was you you may not have a familly any more
you decide whats more important
U know u hate her, I know u hate her, we all know u hate her and what's she's doing gets Ur back up - shop the cow and wipe the smug grin off her ugly fat face - u know u want to and she'll never know - perhaps u could get custody of her kids and move in on her man whilst she's in prison.
geee whiz, dont snitch on your relatives to the enemy, dont forget the gov have been robbing the brit people for nigh on 40 yrs, all the peoples taxes have been taken by a gov of traitors who have betralyed our country, all those taxpayers who dont want to loose there country are having their taxes spent by their own enemies the gov owe the people trillions in tax rebates for stealing their money under false pretences, its economic warfare they are giving millions away to alian immigrants as well as our jobs, leave your sister in law alone, just warn her to keep her gob shut,
it would be the right thing to do because their are people who really need it and if the government finds out by themselfs the punishment will be a lot more harsh.
If she's bragging about it no doubt someone else will hear her and they might report it, in that way you will not be personally involved.
Report her. Family or not she's committing fraud.
I HATE benefit cheats. I know so many genuine cases were they get given a hard time yet the cheats seem to be getting away with it and then go round bragging and boasting about it.
They wind me up so much.
you need to get her to stop, tell her your going to report her if she doesn't stop that might be a incentive for her to stop and if she doesn't, you should report her cause it is unfair to all them hard working people out there and it doesn't help she is bragging about it but i can understand your dilemma
