US citizen driving without a license in Korea?
I got caught driving without a license in South Korea and the cops are telling me that I could pay up to a 3000 us dollar fine. Has anyone ever got caught. What really happens? I was already told that I am not allowed to drive for 2 years if I plan on staying or coming back to this country. Please help. Thanks in advance.

That is correct. All persons driving civilian vehicles in other countries are required to obtain an International drviers license, and most countries never have been as easy about this as the USA. Grin and bear it, buddy.
You have to pay
You're screwed. When you're in Rome, do as the Romans do. You have to follow their rules.
Oklatom below is WRONG. You HAVE to obtain a license in most countries to which you travel.
Help in what way? As a tourist, you are allowed to drive in a foreign country with a valid license in your home country. If you have no license, and drove anyway, of course you will be fined.
